Netflix’s Horror Movie ‘What Lies Below’ Goes Viral For The Wrong Reasons

Netflix has released a new horror movie on its online streaming service, and users are not happy with the end result. The movie, titled What Lies Below, has been the subject of criticism and ridicule all across social media since its release. Both critics and horror fans are upset with the film, and as you can see below, the responses range from disbelief, to confusion, to outright hatred.

Here are just some of the responses that have been trending on social media since the release of What Lies Below on Netflix:

As you can imagine by some of these posts, the newly released What Lies Below is not at all a successful movie. Many have interpreted the film as a jarring mess, with an illogical story and boring pace. And with the way social media is today, any film released in such bad shape is the perfect setup for social media backlash. Hopefully Netflix has better luck next time, as it’s much more gratifying to see social media praise one of your films – not bash it to smithereens. Of course, sometimes these types of projects come back as cult classics – but it’s doubtful that What Lies Below will be one of them.

The new horror film What Lies Below was both written and directed by Braden R. Duemmler. The cast for the film includes Ema Horvath, Troy Iwata, Danny Corbo, Mena Suvori, Trey Tucker, Olan Montgomery, and Haskiri Velazquez.

As for the plot of the disappointing mix of melodrama and horror…

“A 16 year-old girl returns home from camp and learns that her mother has a new boyfriend, one she intends to marry. A man whose charm, intelligence and beauty make him look like he’s not human at all.”

As stated above, one can hope that Netflix will manage to have better luck on social media next time. After all, What Lies Below uses a concept that’s worked well in many other horror films – but they were movies that knew how to better balance their stories and characters.
