Some Fans Are Complaining That ‘The Batman’ Is Too “Woke”

The newly released DC superhero film The Batman has been a hit with most audiences and critics, with director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattison receiving plenty of praise for their work, along with the rest of the film’s cast and crew. Some fans, however, have been majorly disappointed with the film. According to their complaints, The Batman is actually “too woke” for their liking. In particular, it seems most of these fans were upset by one line of dialogue specifically.

This particular line of dialogue, uttered by actress Zoë Kravitz who plays Catwoman aka Selina Kyle in the film, makes a direct reference to “white privilege.” As a result, some fans have taken the opportunity to vent on social media. And, as mentioned above, many of them are simply saying the film is “too woke.”

As you can see below:

Of course, other fans see nothing wrong with the line, and have defended its place in the film. Some believe that it was used organically and appropriately by the character, and that it naturally connects with some of the film’s major themes. And, as you can imagine, they’ve been arguing directly with anyone complaining that the film is promoting a woke narrative.

Here are some of those responses:

It seems that The Batman, as with most movies these days, has some divisive reactions from fans with some calling it woke. Nevertheless, despite complaints, the movie has mostly been receiving positive reception. Robert Pattinson has been mostly accepted as the newest incarnation of the iconic superhero, and fans will get to see more of him in the role going forward.

In fact, there are already a variety of follow-ups in development, both in the form of direct sequels and television series spin-offs. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on these projects as we have them.

The Batman is currently playing in theaters.
