‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Getting First Theatrical Release This October

The fan-favorite horror film Trick ‘r Treat did not have such an easy time when it was initially going to be released theatrically in 2007. While we now recognize the film as a major Halloween staple – it was first released by Warner Bros as a direct-to-video film after being shelved for two years. Now it looks like they’re making up for that mistake – as Trick ‘r Treat will soon hit theaters for the first time ever this October!

This announcement was confirmed by the official WB Classic Films Twitter account. This is certainly exciting news for the cult classic film. After all, many fans have used the Halloween season as the perfect opportunity to watch Trick ‘r Treat every year. But with the opportunity to see it in theaters for the first time – that’s an entirely new ball game. While we might not have a sequel or any other continuation in the works – at least, not at this time – this is certainly the next best thing.

Here’s how Warner Bros further shared the announcement which also includes theatrical re-releases for The Lost Boys, Halloween, and Scream 2:

Filmmaker Michael Dougherty both wrote and directed Trick ‘r Treat. It was inspired by a short film previously created by Michael Dougherty titled Season’s Greetings which first introduced the character Sam. In the years since, the film has inspired comic books, short films, and tons of merchandise. Fans have been hoping that a sequel would get made – and one was even briefly announced in 2013. While plans for that film seem to have stalled, it’s clear that the popularity of Trick ‘r Treat has not, and the new theatrical release is proof of that.

You can visit the Regal website for more information on the Trick ‘r Treat release such as participating theaters and to order tickets. As always, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them!
