Fans experienced a new take on the vampire genre when The Invitation was first released in theaters last month. And, now that the film has been released digitally, it’s been paired with a number of special features including deleted scenes and an alternate ending. Interestingly enough, the alternate ending for The Invitation actually adapts an important moment from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Although it’s kept mostly as a surprise, albeit not for those who’ve seen the trailers, it’s clear that The Invitation borrows elements from Dracula. This includes the titular villain who appears in the film under the name Walter De Ville. Now, as revealed in the new alternate ending, The Invitation nearly adapted a great moment from the original Dracula novel – when the iconic vampire boards the Demeter. This storyline, often referred to as the “Last Voyage of the Demeter,” sees Dracula travel by sea.
The alternate ending works quite similarly as Dracula is shown to not only be alive but he boards a Russian vessel.

It’s possible that, if The Invitation does well enough, that this alternate ending could be the basis for a sequel. As such, we might very well see other fragments of Dracula adapted by Sony for the big screen. Of course, we’ll just have to see what happens in the near future.
The Invitation was directed by Jessica M. Thompson from a screenplay written by Blair Butler. Emile Gladstone produced the film.
The cast of The Invitation is led by Nathalie Emmanuel as Evelyn “Evie” Jackson aka Evelyn “Evie” Alexander and Thomas Doherty as Walter De Ville.
