Many sitcom fans will recognize Maitland Ward for her Boy Meets World character Rachel McGuire. Now the former Disney star is recognized these days for a completely different reason – she’s a major member of the porn industry. And, as she now reveals, enjoys it much more than her former career under Disney. One reason for this, she notes, is that she makes “so much more money.”
This was revealed by Maitland Ward while speaking with Entrepreneur. The 45-year-old star took the time to discuss her transition to the world of adult content.
As a result of this transition, “she now earns six figures a month from OnlyFans, five figures a month from sex toy company Fleshlight, and another six figures yearly from her contract with the porn site Deeper.” This makes to “about 10 times what she made acting in TV and films.”
As she briefly noted:
“I make so much more money. I have so much more control, and I am having so much more fun.”
And, while she did say she “was paid well in Hollywood,” that amount is obviously “nothing near what I am making now.” And while the money is a highlight of her new career choice, so too is her newfound freedom and control. Specifically, she explained that Hollywood both “typecast” and “shunned” her “as this sitcom girl.” But now she has “total control over what comes in and what goes out.” This is important to her because while working on Boy Meets World, it appears that producers would try and have her wear lingerie in their office. And, as someone whose character frequently undressed on the show, she had to deal with this multiple times.
Interestingly, she notes that this career change actually happened by accident. At first, she used her social media profiles to casually share risque photos. It didn’t take long before she started using Patreon to share actual nudes of herself and began making money as a result. “Honestly, I never thought about content to make money,” regarding her first thoughts on the matter. “I was just showing myself and showing who I am.” Of course, after “her first week on Patreon, she had 2800 patrons, paying her anywhere from $15 to $300 a month for her content.” And ultimately Maitland Ward “became the number one adult creator on the site.”
Soon after, she joined OnlyFans in 2019. Of course, this website allowed her to post much more explicit content. The former Disney star then began sharing porn videos shot by her husband, and soon enough, she grew in popularity. Now she has around 28,000 subscribers on OnlyFans. This includes users who pay “$500 for two-minute custom videos in which she acts out a fantasy saying their name.” And, furthermore, she doesn’t think she’s desperate despite certain critics.
“I’m not going to follow anyone else’s rules. And I think that’s really important to be authentic with yourself.”
