Henry Cavill Wants Future ‘Superman’ Films To Be More Inspiring

With the release of Black Adam, fans finally have confirmation that Henry Cavill will be returning to the DCU franchise. As such, audiences are excited to know what the next phase for the character will be. After all, Man of Steel featured a rather dark interpretation of the character as did the next few appearances for Superman. Now Henry Cavill confirms he’d like to have a more inspiring take on Superman next.

This was confirmed by Henry Cavill in an interview with ScreenRant. They had the opportunity to ask what his hopes for the character would be going into the future. As he explained, he has “a very close connection to the character.” And, furthermore, he hopes to have viewers “leave the cinema and to feel like they can fly, to feel like they can protect, and to feel like they want to give to everyone else.”

Here’s what Henry Cavill specifically had to say about wanting a more inspiring take on Superman:

“There is so much in the way of conversations to be had. Obviously, I have a very close connection to the character. And there is something extraordinarily special about him; extraordinarily special about his capacity to give and to love. I don’t mean romantically; I mean his love for Earth and for the people who live here, and to make people feel powerful—to make people feel like Superman themselves.”

Henry Cavill further added the following, where he shared his hopes for audiences seeing his more inspiring take on Superman in future films:

“I have plenty of desires for this, of course, which will be discussed more in time. But the most important thing, which I will be aiming for, is for the audience to leave the cinema and to feel like they can fly, to feel like they can protect, and to feel like they want to give to everyone else. That would be my goal.”

This would certainly be a refreshing way to introduce the character following his absence over the years. It would also more than likely appeal to mainstream audiences more than the last few interpretations did. So, with all this in mind, it’ll be exciting to see what happens. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them. In the meantime, fans can still see Black Adam in theaters which includes Henry Cavill’s reappearance as Superman for a special post-credits scene.

Jaume Collet-Serra directed Black Adam from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani.

Dwayne Johnson stars in the film as the titular character. The cast also includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu also appear in the film.
