Fans were ecstatic when a sequel to 2005’s Constantine was officially announced. The film is set to bring Keanu Reeves back as John Constantine. A recent report had fans upset, however, as it claimed that Constantine 2 was scrapped by Warner Bros. Now it turns out that’s not the case.
KC Walsh made claims on social media that “Constantine 2 is not happening.” It was a statement that had many fans upset. Especially given some of Warner Bros’ recent decisions to cancel projects such as Batgirl.
He alleged that the film was cancelled because it was only “greenlit in desperation.” Specifically because Warner Bros “needed to have something post 2023” after being unsure about the direction of their DC slate.

However, a statement directly from Warner Bros., via EW, has confirmed otherwise. This confirms that KC Walsh’s claims are completely false. As stated below:
“A spokesperson for Warner Bros. confirmed to EW that Constantine 2 is not scrapped.”
Of course, it’s still unclear whether or not the new film will be part of the DCU or the Elseworlds label. But we’ll likely have those details soon as production on Constantine 2 gets closer to happening.
Francis Lawrence will return to direct Constantine 2 after having directed the 2005 film. Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the titular character. It’s been said that the film will be shot with a R-Rating in mind.
The screenplay for the new sequel to Constantine will be written by Akiva Goldsman. He will also produce the film via his own Weed Road Pictures, along with Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella. Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff are attached as executive producers on the project.
A release date for the Constantine sequel has yet to be scheduled. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated DC project as we have them. For now, rest assured, the film is still happening.
