New ‘Hellboy’ Movie Reboot Reportedly In Development

The Hellboy film franchise was recently rebooted in 2019 for a new adaptation starring David Harbour. The film was considered a failure, however, though Millennium Media is already eager to try again. It’s being reported that a new live-action Hellboy reboot is currently in development.

This news comes via Discussing Film. Additionally, they even reveal that a director has already been chosen to handle the project. According to their report, Jonah Hex co-writer Brian Taylor is tapped to direct the film. It’s worth noting that Taylor has also co-directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Crank: High Voltage.

They were also able to report that Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and horror/fantasy author Christopher Golden are allegedly being given story credits on the upcoming film. They also noted that it’s unknown if either of them have actually contributed to the film’s screenplay.

Interestingly, they also added that the film’s working title is reportedly Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Although the title could change – this does imply that the film could be a possible adaptation of the 2011 comic book miniseries of the same name. As such, fans shouldn’t expect any sequel to the 2019 film. Here’s the summary provided:

“The miniseries follows Hellboy in 1956, somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia, as he encounters Tom, a man who in his youth sold his soul to a backwoods demon known as the Crooked Man. Together, they travel back into the dark heart of the Appalachian mountains to confront the demon and see if Tom’s soul can be saved.”

However:

“Plot details for this new Hellboy film are currently under wraps so it cannot be said if they will actually adapt this story or how accurate it will be to the source material if they do.”

Hopefully we’ll have more details soon if the report is accurate. It’s been said that shooting for the film is planned for this April in Bulgaria. As such, we should likely have more news soon. This includes which actor will be playing Hellboy this time – given that Ron Perlman or David Harbour are both unlikely to return. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for news on this Hellboy reboot project as we have them.
