‘Beef’ Star David Choe Faces Backlash Over Past Rape Comments

David Choe is the star of the newly-released Netflix series Beef. However, comments from the actor in 2014 have resurfaced, sparking backlash online. The comments actually come from Choe’s podcast “DVDASA,” in which he discusses his own “rapey behavior.”

As noted by Variety, the DVDASA clips, as taken from an episode titled “Erection Quest,” were shared on social media by writers Aura Bogado and Meecham Whitson Meriweather. They were shortly taken down, however, when Twitter sent them Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) warnings. The warnings were directly filed by Choe.

The clips were described as “copyright infringing media” and that they were asked to remove the clips “immediately.” And while it isn’t the first time the clips have surfaced, they’ve certainly sparked an all-new wave of backlash. The clips feature Choe as he tells a story, one he now claims is “fictional,” and discusses many of its X-rated details. The story itself revolves around a massage Choe received from a therapist he names Rose.

“I’m getting turned on just telling this story,” Choe begins. “I just take her hand and I put it on my dick. She just holds it there.” His co-host, Asa Akira, then asks if Rose’s hand was limp. He says she was “holding it on her own.”

By the end, however, Choe states the following:

“The thrill of possibly going to jail, that’s what achieved the erection quest.”

Akira responds with the following:

“Ew, you’re basically telling us that you’re a rapist now, and that the only way to get your dick really hard is rape.”

“Yeah,” Choe answers back.

He further discusses Rose with some of the guests on the podcast. At this point, however, Akira says:

“What the fuck is wrong with you guys? Who cares what she looks like? Dave is telling us he’s a rapist.”

“A successful rapist,” Choe jokes.

Here are some of the responses that social media users have shared:

Nevertheless, some users believe that Choe’s performance shouldn’t ruin the rest of Beef. In fact, they insist that fans should still watch the show on Netflix. With that said, David Choe has yet to release a new statement on the matter, having previously only addressed it in 2014. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
