‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ Shocking Ending Explained

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here. Marvel fans are delighted to finally have the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Of course, this is far from the final installment, as the ending sets up the next film installment: Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

With that in mind, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has quite a surprising ending. Although there is no post-credits scene, there is something of a major cliffhanger for the film’s main narrative. And for those unaware of the additional sequel on the way – it can be a bit jarring.

After learning about the Spider-Society and the existence of canon events, Miles Morales attempts to use the society’s interdimensional teleporter to return home. Unfortunately, the device sends him back to the universe that the spider which bit him came from. This means that Miles is sent to Earth-42 and not his home world, Earth-1610, because the spider that bit him came from another universe altogether.

In this timeline, Miles discovers that his father is dead rather than his uncle. Furthermore, his uncle knocks him out, and Miles wakes up to believe that his uncle is now the Prowler in this universe. Rather, he discovers that Earth-42’s Miles is the Prowler now.

It’s a shocking moment that’s followed by Gwen Stacy as she groups together different Spider-People to save Miles. It’s an obvious setup for the sequel and one that should have fans eager to see what’s next. Fortunately, we won’t have anywhere near as long to wait for this sequel to be released.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Meanwhile, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are credited as writers on the project alongside David Callaham. The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg. The film is executive produced by original Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey as well as Aditya Sood.

The cast for the film includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez and Greta Lee. Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Joma Taccone, Shea Whigham, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jason Schwartzman among others.

Fans can now see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Spider-Man film updates as we have them.
