Freddy Krueger Theory Will Change How You View ‘Jason X’

The original continuities for both Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street led to 2003’s Freddy vs Jason before they were each remade. Of course, in between Jason Goes to Hell’s ending which set the stage for Freddy vs Jason, fans did get one more Jason-centric entry: Jason X. Now a fan theory explains how Freddy Krueger could have been involved with Jason X as well.

The common consensus is that Jason X simply takes place after Freddy vs. Jason. If Freddy vs. Jason is set in the year 2003, and Jason X opens in 2010, then the film would naturally take place after Jason walks out of Crystal Lake at the end of the crossover. But the fan theory actually places Jason X chronologically before Freddy vs. Jason.

Freddy vs. Jason opens with a monologue from Freddy. He explains that he had to search Hell for someone to remind Springwood of his murderous ways. This links up with Jason Goes to Hell, where Freddy can be spotted at the very end dragging Jason’s mask into the ground. Now the fan theory suggests that, after taking Jason’s mask, Freddy places Jason in a dream that happens to be Jason X.

The dream is apparently Freddy’s way of testing Jason. After all, if he can survive such an environment as a futuristic space setting, then he’s surely the perfect vessel to send to Springwood. It’s an interesting theory, but sadly outside of that, there’s not much to support Freddy’s connection. Unless, of course, you count how over-the-top Jason X is when compared to its predecessors.

It’s not a fool-proof theory. But at the very least – Jason X could still be a dream. After all, Jason is shown to be dreaming during the opening of Freddy vs. Jason. This seems to indicate that, when dead, Jason does dream. So perhaps he did have a space-set dream. Whether Freddy was involved with that or not would have to be a separate element. Then again, there are numerous other Jason X spin-off materials like books and comics. So it could very well occur in the far-off future of the Friday the 13th timeline.

Sadly, it seems like the original continuity won’t have any official answers any time soon. There is a Friday the 13th television series in development – but it’ll likely launch a new continuity than take place in the existing one. Of course, fans could always be surprised, so we’ll have to see what the future holds. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
