Giant Shark Horror Movie Reaches Top Spot On Amazon Prime Video Streaming

The shark subgenre of horror movies has been making a comeback for several years now. As such, following the release of Meg 2: The Trench in theaters, it looks like another over-sized shark movie has just hit the #1 spot on Amazon Prime.

As shared via FlixPatrol, The Black Demon has reached the #1 spot on Amazon Prime Video in the United States. It’s quite a feat for the newly-released movie, especially considering it has a 3.6/10 on IMDb and an additional 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, audiences are clearly eager to stream this schlocky shark flick straight to their television screens.

Here’s a synopsis for the shark film on Prime which does promise the same kind of aquatic action as The Meg and its sequel:

“Oilman Paul Sturges’ idyllic family vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter a ferocious megalodon shark that will stop at nothing to protect its territory. Stranded and under constant attack, Paul and his family must somehow find a way to get his family back to shore alive before it strikes again in this epic battle between humans and nature.”

Of course, The Black Demon isn’t made on quite the same scale as the aforementioned blockbusters. But it’s a great throwback to the trend of killer shark movies that followed the release of Jaws in 1975. After all, viewers seem to enjoy a good shark attack flick. Even if by good I mean completely bonkers. And for a film about a megalodon shark that continues to attack in an effort to protect its territory, “bonkers” is absolutely the correct term to use.

Adrian Grünberg directed the film which was penned by Boise Esquerra. The cast includes Josh Lucas, Fernanda Urrejola, Julio Cesar Cedillo, Omar Chaparro, Bolivar Sanchez, and Carlos Solórzano.
