It’s been revealed that Wayne Brady is pansexual. The 51-year-old celebrity revealed the news himself in a recent interview.
As shared with People, having prepared himself to tell the world how he identifies, “I am pansexual,” he states. For those unaware, being pansexual means that Brady can be attracted to a person regardless of their sex or gender.
Brady shares a humorous explanation of his own:
“Bisexual – with an open mind!”
However, the first person Wayne Brady came out to was his 47-year-old ex wife, Mandie Taketa. She shared her reaction to the news:
“I just said, ‘Great.’ As I knew coming out would help him be happier.”
Likewise, her 20-year-old daughter also reacted acceptingly. “I just said, ‘Okay,’” she reveals, noting that it was mostly a shrug in response. Though she repeated the story with a smile.
In more detail, Brady also recounted that while he’s never dated another man, he has been attracted to some. Of course, given how he was raised, Brady explains that it was never an option to express those feelings.
“Let’s be really honest: I’ve also been attracted to certain men in my life, but I’ve always pushed that aside because of how I was raised, and because I live in today’s world, and it’s scary as s–t. What’s the fastest way to hurt another man? I’m gonna call you out of your name. I’m gonna call you gay. I’m gonna emasculate you. I’m gonna use the F-word. I learned that very early from the people around me, they’re like, ‘Oh, so those are bad things? Yeah. You, you don’t wanna be that.’
“So, what does it mean if I feel something? I don’t think I’m gay, but what if I feel something for another [man]… That’s still gay. I was already bullied about a bunch of other s–t. I didn’t wanna add a top hat on top of that suit.”
He elaborated as well that coming out was necessary to be involved with LGBTQ discussions and issues. Though he understood that he didn’t have to come out, he wanted to be a part of the conversation, and decided “to break that behavior.”
He concludes by stating he wants to work on himself before dating anyone. And only then can “Wayne as a single, open-minded pansexual can make a decision and be free and open to other people.” As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any potential updates as we have them.
