‘Aquaman 2’ Trailer Sets Disappointing Record For Fans

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be the final film installment for the DCEU before the DCU brings in a new continuity. Fans will be sad to know, however, that the trailer for the long-awaited Aquaman 2 just set a disappointing record.

The film has had quite the production. Obviously star Amber Heard set headlines ablaze during her lawsuit with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Then it was revealed that the DCEU would be shutdown altogether as James Gunn made way for the DCU. More recently, both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have gone on strike. But, as shared by The Direct, it’s the unreleased trailer for Aquaman 2 that now has fans talking.

The Aquaman sequel is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2023. Obviously this date could change given the circumstances in Hollywood. But assuming it hits that date, it was noted that “the sequel now sets the DCEU record for the shortest window between the release of a film’s first trailer and its theatrical release date.”

Funnily enough, the movie which previously held that record happened to be The Flash. The film, which starred Ezra Miller, ended up being a box office bomb with division amongst critics and fans. As such, it’s not a good sign for fans hoping that Aquaman 2 will have an improved reception.

The new sequel is being directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. He co-wrote the first Aquaman film alongside Will Beall and James Wan.

In addition to Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera, the cast of the film includes Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional DC updates as we have them. Hopefully we’ll see the official release of the trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom soon. Until then, we’ve received plenty of interesting updates regarding what’s coming next, including 2025’s Superman: Legacy.
