Marvel Just Pushed The Punisher In A Disturbing Direction

It’s been an interesting time for fans of the Marvel antihero The Punisher this year. A new comic book series has been reinvigorating the iconic character, otherwise known as Frank Castle, in a number of new ways. In addition to placing him near the top of the death cult known as The Hand, which has granted him newfound powers, Frank Castle’s own origin has been redefined. Now they’ve taken a step further by putting the titular Punisher in a rather disturbing situation.

It’s been revealed that, during the events of Punisher #6, Frank Castle had to endure a rather awful event. Fans will know that one of the main driving forces for the iconic character has been the loss of his family. And, while the new comic book series has brought back his wife Maria, it appears that his children are part of a different scenario. The two kids, named Lisa and Frank Jr., are unfortunately not quite as easy to bring back as Maria was.

After The Hand attempts to revive his children, Frank Castle discovers that they were brought back incorrectly. The high priestess explains that, due to the fact they’re only children, it’s nearly impossible to bring them without failing. As a result, the kids are brought back as grotesque mounds of flesh. Of course, they’re technically still alive, so it’s a horrible situation for both whatever exists of the kids and their father.

Here’s how the high priestess explained the ordeal:

“It’s always difficult with children,” she begins. “Especially ones who’ve been dead longer than they were alive….I’m afraid that every time we’ve tried and fail to produce…viable results, it’s left less physical material to work with. Even the magic elixirs blessed by the beasts have their limits.”

At this point, Frank Castle asks everyone in the room – including the high priestess – to leave. He draws his sword and kills both of his children. It’s an event that’s no doubt traumatic for the well-known vigilante. And, before having enough time to even think about his actions, he sees a familiar figure – Daredevil. The issue ends soon after, paving the way for Punisher #7. Indeed, it’s a disturbing situation for The Punisher to find himself in.

Jason Aaron wrote the series with artwork from Paul Azaceta and Jesus Saiz.

The new issues from the 2022 comic book series Punisher are currently available from Marvel Comics. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding this surprising new take on The Punisher as we have them.
