The current success of sequels and reboots have allowed horror franchises like Child’s Play and Halloween to come back to the forefront. Of course, many fans are still waiting to see other properties such as Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street to make similar comebacks. Now it appears that more than just fans want that to happen. Heather Langenkamp, who played Nancy Thompson in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, has expressed her desire for a new legacy sequel in the same vein as 2018’s Halloween.
Fans are familiar with the way that particular Halloween film ignored most of the franchise’s continuity. Instead, it acted as a direct sequel to the original 1978 film, and further launching a pair of new sequels. Heather Langenkamp has noticed this success and explained to Entertainment Tonight that she thinks A Nightmare on Elm Street should receive a similar treatment. And, best of all, she wants to return much like Jamie Lee Curtis did for Halloween.
“If Nancy could fight Freddy one last time,” she noted, “I would really like that.”
She further compared the possibilities to the most recent Halloween films:
“Gosh, I’d love to see a future in that. I’ve been really watching the Halloween saga that’s been out, and I love watching Jamie Lee Curtis get to play that part,” she continued. “You know, this age, where I think we have so much to give to those storylines, but yeah, I wish I was in control of that, but, unfortunately, it’s one of those Hollywood very complicated things.”
Fans have certainly loved seeing Heather Langenkamp return to the role over the years. She first reprised her role as Nancy for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. It’s often been considered one of the best films in the franchise – if not the best – as a result. Similarly, she returned to play herself in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, a meta-sequel which brings Freddy Krueger into the “real” world. So, with that in mind, fans would no doubt be glad to see her return for another installment. Unfortunately, it’s unknown if her co-star Robert Englund would be as willing to come back to play Freddy Krueger again. After all, he’s made it clear that the makeup and stunt work has become too much with his current age. But one can always hope that Hollywood could find a way to make it work.
