The film Django Unchained is often considered one of Quentin Tarantino’s best movies. However, musician Kanye West, aka Ye, is now making a bold claim regarding the film – and suggests that Quentin Tarantino actually stole the concept for Django Unchained from him.
As noted by Variety, Kayne West had an interview with Piers Morgan on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” During this interview, Kanye West made his shocking claim. He insisted that Django Unchained was initially the basis for a music video concept for his 2005 song Gold Digger. The music video concept was pitched to both Quentin Tarantino and Jamie Foxx, he says. It’s worth noting that Jamie Foxx does star in the actual Gold Digger music video – though it’s not much at all like Django Unchained.
Here’s what Kanye West specifically had to say regarding Django Unchained being stolen from him:
“Tarantino can write a movie about slavery, where actually — him and Jamie — they got the idea from me, because the idea for ‘Django’ I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger.’ And then Tarantino turned it into a film,” Kanye West stated.
It’s certainly an interesting claim made by Kanye West regarding the film’s origins. Of course, it’s unknown if anything more will stem from it. As of this writing, Quentin Tarantino and Jamie Foxx have not shared any responses to the allegation. With that in mind, we will have additional updates regarding the careers of Quentin Tarantino and Jamie Foxx as we have them. In particular, Tarantino has been in the midst of developing his final film project. Hopefully we’ll have details on that front soon.
As for Django Unchained, that particular film is named after the 1966 western film Django. This film is notorious for having spawned dozens of unofficial sequels, with only one legitimate sequel having been produced as of this writing. Both Django and its official sequel, Django Strikes Again, star Franco Nero as the titular character. Franco Nero also appeared for a humorous cameo in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.
