Angela Lansbury has become known over the decades for an incredible number of performances in film, television, and on the stage. Sadly, it’s been announced that she has died at age 96, just five days before her 97th birthday.
As noted via NBC, her children confirmed that she “died peacefully in her sleep” on October 11, 2022. This occurred at her home in Los Angeles. It’s certainly a sad announcement for fans of the beloved actress. In fact, she’s even notably won five Tony awards – including one in 2009 for her work in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit.
The Actors’ Equity, a union for live stage performers, noted that they “are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Angela Lansbury.” They further noted that she was a member of their union “for an astounding 65 years.” With that in mind, it goes to show just how many projects and how many different mediums that she was able to impact with her talents.

Her career in film first began with the 1944 film Gaslight. This appearance would be followed by decades of different projects up until this year, where Angela Lansbury played herself in the upcoming film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. A few other film appearances include Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The Company of Wolves, Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins Returns. Of course, many will perhaps best remember her for her career in television. She’s become a legendary television figure thanks to her performance on Murder, She Wrote. It was a role that she continued to play for several decades.
Angela Lansbury is survived by her three children, named Anthony, Deirdre, and David. She’s further survived by her three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine, and Ian, in addition to five great grandchildren. Her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury, is also included. There will be a private family ceremony held for her with the date yet-to-be determined.
