‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Faces Allegations Of Racism

The newly-released MCU blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been an exciting event for many Marvel fans. After all, the film goes to great lengths to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, the late actor who played the MCU’s original Black Panther. Sadly, however, it seems some viewers believe Black Panther: Wakanda Forever demonstrated a number of different racist stereotypes throughout its runtime.

The complaints can be found on Twitter where users, such as journalist and podcaster Jason Whitlock, believed sitting through the MCU film “was torture.” In fact, he claims that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever “hates black men, America, and the patriarchy.”

He further claims that the film’s “selling point” is nothing more than “racial idolatry.”

As you can see below:

Other users have shared similar thoughts. For example, fellow journalist Tim Pool claims that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever “was good” other than “the insane degree of racist stereotypes in the movie.” He goes on to say that “they really hate Mexicans” regarding the film.

Interestingly, thousands of Twitter users seem to be echoing their thoughts. Many of these complaints surround the character Namor and how he was portrayed by actor Tenoch Huerta. The character was rewritten from his comic book counterpart to have an Aztec origin instead of an Atlantean one. It seems changes like this have impacted viewers’ perception of the movie. Interestingly, it appears that international audiences are also having difficulty accepting the film. Specifically, the international box office earnings have not been as strong as estimated. As such, we’ll have to see how the film is ultimately received in the near future.

Ryan Coogler directed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole.

The cast for the new MCU film includes Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Tenoch Huerta, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

Fans can currently see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates for upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects as we have them.
