Although there are plenty of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects to be excited for, it’s the Avengers films that often take the top of the list. As such, fans are anxious to see what’s in store for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s already been revealed that Destin Daniel Cretton will be directing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. But what about Avengers: Secret Wars? There are plenty of directors being rumored for the spot. However, Kevin Feige has clarified that no one is attached to direct Avengers: Secret Wars. This comes not long after a new rumor suggested that Ryan Coogler of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would be directing the film.
As revealed in a discussion with Variety, Kevin Feige calls Ryan Coogler “a singular talent and a great person,” one that he’d want “to do anything at any time.” However, he also clarified that “there’ve been no conversations” regarding Avengers: Secret Wars.
Here’s his full statement on the matter:
“Well, I would want Ryan to do anything at any time because he’s a singular talent and a great person to spend years with. But no, in all honesty, there’ve been no conversations. We’ve not spoken to him about Secret Wars.”
Additionally, Ryan Coogler himself merely said “that’s crazy” when asked about the rumored job. It seems he spent most of his energy for the time being on his upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. And, once that film is released, he wants to “sit down and reflect” before he moves onto “whatever’s next.”
“I love making movies, but to quote a character in our movie, I gave this everything. This movie got everything I have. I’m at that place where I think I’ve got this press tour in me and then I’ve got to sit down and reflect. Probably cry a lot, because I’ve been holding that back. And then from there, figure out whatever’s next.”
It’s been stated that Michael Waldron is writing the screenplay for Avengers: Secret Wars. And, as the statement from Kevin Feige proves, a director for Avengers: Secret Wars has yet to be attached. We’ll have more news on those fronts in the coming years as its release date approaches. In the meantime, there are still plenty of other MCU projects to be looking forward to.
