Netflix ‘Monster’ Renewal Faces Backlash From ‘Dahmer’ Critics

The success of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story proved that the true crime genre was a massive goldmine for Netflix. As such, they recently announced that two additional seasons of the hit series have been ordered. Of course, given the real-world circumstances that inspired the series, many people are upset by this news. In particular, there were already quite a few critics of the first season and how it treated the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer. But now they’ve taken to social media to express their disappointment with the renewal of Monster.

As of this writing, it’s unclear which real-life criminals the next two seasons of Monster will follow. The first season, as mentioned above, followed real-life serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. And, with that in mind, there appeared to be more than a few inconsistencies with how the events occurred in real-life.

Obviously people don’t want to see the same mistakes made with additional seasons of the show. Especially if the series ends up only being produced for monetary gain.

Here are some of the responses to the renewal of Monster and the two new seasons that Netflix will be releasing:

We’ll have to see how Ryan Murphy and his team continue to handle the production of Monster and respond to these criticisms. It’s clear that many viewers felt that the first season was disrespectful to the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer and their families – so it’ll be interesting to see what they try to do to rectify that for future seasons.

American Horror Story actor Evan Peters stars in the first season of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as the titular Jeffrey Dahmer. The cast of Dahmer also includes Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford, and Richard Jenkins.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates on Ryan Murphy’s series Monster as we have them. In the meantime, the first season is currently available to stream on Netflix.
