Rumor: Henry Cavill In Talks To Play Marvel’s Spider-UK For Sony

A number of new television shows and films set in the Spider-Man universe have been announced by Sony in recent years. Now a new report claims that Henry Cavill could be joining the Spider-Man franchise as a variant of the character known as Spider-UK.

This report comes via GFR, where they claim to have heard the former Superman actor has entered talks with Sony Pictures. As they’ve noted, Spider-UK is something of a cross between Spider-Man and Captain Britain. As such, it would certainly be interesting to see the British actor tackle the role. Especially after having been removed from DC’s film franchise.

Here’s what they shared about the report while noting other rumors that suggest Henry Cavill could play Captain Britain himself for the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“There have been persistent rumors of late that Henry Cavill might be up for playing Captain Britain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there is no reason why he could not also play Spider-UK for Sony Pictures. The character was introduced in the 2014 Spider-Verse storyline, which involved innumerable variants of Marvel’s favorite web-slinger, including several that have already shown up in various media.”

It certainly seems like a possibility. After all, both Marvel and Sony are eagerly tackling the Multiverse concept while introducing numerous variants themselves. It does seem possible that Henry Cavill could show up as at least one of the two characters – if not both. Of course, even if this report is true, Cavill is merely in talks for the role – so we’ll have to wait for an official confirmation from Sony Pictures on the matter.

Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding the Spider-Man franchise and Henry Cavill as we have them. And, of course, if there’s any news regarding connections between the two. Until then – Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland is currently in development.
