It’s currently unclear what her role in the film will be. However, it’s very likely that she could wind up playing someone possessed given the nature of the Exorcist franchise. As such, we’ll have to see what direction this new outing takes. With two other films on the way, however, there are surely numerous possibilities for this storyline.
For now, we know that this first sequel involves Leslie Odom Jr.’s character contacting Ellen Burstyn’s Chris MacNeil for help. Chris MacNeil was the mother of Regan, the possessed girl from the original film played by Linda Blair.
David Gordon Green will direct the film from a screenplay he penned alongside Peter Sattler. The story was created by Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Green.
Jason Blum will produce the film via Blumhouse. David Robinson and James Robinson will produce via Morgan Creek. Green, McBride, and Couper Samuelson are attached as executive producers. Meanwhile, Ryan Turek is overseeing the project for Blumhouse.
The first installment of David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist trilogy is set to be released on October 13, 2023. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated trilogy as we have them. After seeing Green’s work on the Halloween franchise, this will certainly be an exciting change of pace.
