‘The Last Of Us’ Star Bella Ramsey Isn’t Afraid Of LGBTQ Backlash

Many fans are loving the hit series The Last of Us. Of course, others are less than pleased, with the third episode having been review bombed on IMDb for featuring a gay love story. Now series star Bella Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary, has expressed their own thoughts regarding the LGBTQ backlash.

Bella Ramsey discussed as much while speaking with GQ. The outlet asked them about the backlash, and admirably enough, they note that they’re not “afraid.” Ramsey believes that haters will simply have to get used to it or else they’ll be missing out.

Here’s what Bella Ramsey specifically shared regarding the LGBTQ backlash:

“I’m not particularly anxious about it,” Ramsey began. “I know people will think what they want to think. But they’re gonna have to get used to it. If you don’t want to watch the show because it has gay storylines, because it has a trans character, that’s on you, and you’re missing out. It isn’t gonna make me afraid. I think that comes from a place of defiance.”

Bella Ramsey is absolutely correct. The television series The Last of Us features LGBTQ themes because both of the video games it’s based upon do as well. It’s fitting, then, that Bella Ramsey understands that it’s simply the way it is. And, given how many other fans are supportive of the series, it seems like it’s working out for the best either way.

The Last of Us was developed by Craig Mazin who worked alongside Neil Druckmann to write and executive produce. Kantemir Balagov directed the pilot episode with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi having directed additional episodes.

The cast of The Last of Us includes Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Troy Baker, and Ashley Johnson, as well as Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Pierce and Anna Torv.

Fans can currently stream The Last of Us via HBO Max. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates regarding the fan-favorite series as we have them.
