Brendan Fraser Wins Best Actor Oscar For ‘The Whale’

Actor Brendan Fraser was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the film The Whale. Now fans are excited to see that Brendan Fraser has, in fact, won the award for Best Actor at the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony.

His role in The Whale happened to be his first lead role in a major film in twelve years. As such, it’s quite a comeback that Fraser managed to win such an award after his hiatus. Though fans of The Whale certainly won’t be surprised, given how good of a performance he delivered.

His character in the film, Charlie, is a reclusive English teacher with morbid obesity. The character falls into a habit of binge eating due to the guilt he feels after leaving his wife for a man. This man dies, however, leaving Charlie alone until he attempts to reconnect with his daughter, Ellie, played by Sadie Sink.

It’s a dramatic role that obviously differs in style to Fraser’s previous work in the Mummy film franchise or the shelved Batgirl movie. Nevertheless, Fraser gives the role his all, having undergone a complete transformation to bring his character Charlie to life. The performance is most definitely deserving of an Oscar, and so, it’s great to see that Fraser won. Indeed, The Whale marks quite the comeback for the fan-favorite actor. Hopefully we’ll continue seeing such good things come from his career in the near future.

The Whale was directed by Darren Aronofsky with a screenplay that was written by Samuel D. Hunter. The film was also based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name.

The incredible cast of The Whale includes star Brendan Fraser as Charlie and Sadie Sink as his daughter, Ellie. The film also stars Hong Chau, Samantha Morton, Ty Simpkins, and Sathya Sridharan.
