Fans are already analyzing every frame of the newly-released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer. The footage for the film is full of Easter eggs, references, and numerous other details worth dissecting. One such detail that fans have become drawn to includes a trans flag that’s been spotted in Spider-Man character Gwen Stacy’s bedroom.
Gwen Stacy has become a fan-favorite character within the Spider-Man franchise. She was initially a love interest for Spider-Man before becoming a spider-person of her own. Now, however, it looks like she’s also a supporter of the LGBTQ community and more specifically “trans kids.”
This is evident in a brief shot from the trailer where we see Gwen Stacy’s bedroom. The character appears to own a transgender flag with the following words printed on it:
“PROTECT TRANS KIDS”
The message here is clear and many fans are happy about it. Of course, there are other Spider-Man fans that believe the trans flag’s inclusion is nothing more than propaganda. Additionally, fans noticed that the film’s protagonist – Black teenager Miles Morales – happens to have a “Black Lives Matter” pin on his backpack.

It’s evident that Sony, much like Marvel Studios and Disney, hopes to creative a more inclusive world with their superhero movies. As such, we’ll have to see what else Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and other related films have to offer in this regard.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. Meanwhile, Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be credited as writers on the project alongside David Callaham. The film will be produced by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg. The film will be executive produced by original Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey as well as Aditya Sood.
The cast for the film includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez and Greta Lee. Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Joma Taccone, Shea Whigham, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jason Schwartzman among others.
