The X-Men franchise has had the opportunity to introduce various new iterations of its beloved characters over the years. Now it looks like Marvel will be taking a chance with Wolverine as they introduce all-new surprising choices to the character.
Specifically, Wolverine appears to be transforming into the new host of the Phoenix for a new take on the Dark Phoenix storyline. It’s a surprisingly horrific sequence from the upcoming issue Jean Grey #2 as part of the series which follows Jean’s story. The overall narrative takes place after the Fall of X with Jean dying and her mind transferring through different paths in history.

Of course, with Wolverine taking the place of Jean, it likely won’t turn out well. After all, Grey was a certain kind of Marvel hero, and with this new timeline it’s no doubt that Wolverine won’t be the best host for the phoenix. Here’s the plot synopsis for the series:
