Razzie-Winning Sci-Fi Movie Makes Comeback On Streaming

Streaming has given another underrated film a chance to shine. This time on streaming, however, is a sci-fi movie from 2003 that happened to win a Razzie.

The film, which was helmed by Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II director John Woo, is none other than Paycheck. As shared via FlixPatrol, the film has surprisingly become one of the most streamed titles available on iTunes.

In addition to having won a Razzie, Paycheck actually had a negative impact on John Woo’s film career. He would not direct another American feature film until Silent Night, which began production in 2022 and has yet to be released.

For those unfamiliar, the synopsis of the film – based on the novel of the same name by Philip K. Dick – is as follows:

“Michael Jennings is a genius who’s hired — and paid handsomely — by high-tech firms to work on highly sensitive projects, after which his short-term memory is erased so he’s incapable of breaching security. But at the end of a three-year job, he’s told he isn’t getting a paycheck and instead receives a mysterious envelope. In it are clues he must piece together to find out why he wasn’t paid … and how he’s gotten in hot water.”

The cast of Paycheck includes Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, Aaron Eckhart, Paul Giamatti, Michael C. Hall, Joe Morton, and Colm Feore.

It was Ben Affleck who won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor, not only for his performance in Paycheck, but also Gigli and Daredevil. Likewise, the film received mixed to negative reviews, with the film having only made $117 million at the box office on a $60 million budget.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional streaming news as we have it. For now, fans can check out the sci-fi movie Paycheck by streaming it on Apple’s iTunes. Perhaps it’s time to reevaluate the film after all these years.
