Jimmy Fallon Apologizes To Staff Amid Toxic Workplace Accusations

In light of The Tonight Show being called a toxic workplace, host Jimmy Fallon is making apologies. Fallon was said to have been erratic and abusive by a number of former and current Tonight Show employees. Now he claims to be sorry for potentially embarrassing any fellow employees.

As noted in a Zoom call via Variety, Jimmy Fallon had the following message for the staff of the show:

“It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends,” Fallon began. “I feel so bad I can’t even tell you.”

He continued to express what he wants the show to be:

“I want this show to be fun, it should be inclusive for everybody, it should be funny, it should be the best show, the best people.”

The statement was made in response to Rolling Stone where staff members explained their mental health would worsen while working on the show. This was partially due to Fallon allegedly lashing out under pressure. Furthermore, there have been nine different showrunners on the series since Jay Leno retired in 2014 which made the situation even more difficult.

One former employee stated the following when speaking to Rolling Stone:

“Nobody told Jimmy, ‘No.’ Everybody walked on eggshells, especially showrunners,” they began. “You never knew which Jimmy we were going to get and when he was going to throw a hissy fit. Look how many showrunners went so quickly. We know they didn’t last long.”

Another employee discussed Fallon’s alleged mood swings:

“It was like, if Jimmy is in a bad mood, everyone’s day is fucked,” one former employee said. “People wouldn’t joke around in the office, and they wouldn’t stand around and talk to each other. It was very much like, focus on whatever it is that you have to do because Jimmy’s in a bad mood, and if he sees that, he might fly off.”

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we may have them. If nothing else, hopefully this leads to a safer workplace for those at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The series is currently on hiatus due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
